About
A whole claustral house from one kit. The cloister is a 3 m module system: an arcade bay with twin shafts, two pointed arches and a range wall with a bench along it, a corner piece that turns the walk, a segmental vault section and a lean-to roof slope, all ported on the same grid so a cloister of any size closes round its garth. The ranges are built from coursed wall bays, a lancet window bay, a doorway bay whose oak leaf swings, buttresses, stone slate roof slopes, flagstone floor slabs and garth lawn tiles, with a chapter house bay, a bell tower, a hung bell that swings, a spiral stair vice, a well whose windlass turns, and a stone drain. Inside are the refectory table, forms and reader’s pulpit, dormitory and infirmary cots, iron bound chests whose lids lift, the kitchen hearth, a cauldron on a swinging crane, a bread oven with a hinged iron door, a brewhouse tun, raised herb beds, a physic bench with drawers that open, an apothecary jar shelf, a hand cart whose wheels roll, wood stacks and a compost bay. The scriptorium is the heart of it: sloped writing desks with lifting lids, stools, quills and inkhorns, a pigment tray, a gold leaf cushion, a ruling board, a manuscript in progress, a finished codex, a book chest, a tilting lectern, a chained library desk, a book press whose screws turn and a parchment frame whose pegs tighten, with the chapel screen, altar table, font, tomb slab, reliquary casket, candle stands, censer, torches, hanging lamps and a rush light around them. Rigid node transform clips only, no skinning and no people. Candle and torch flame, smoke, hanging cloth and chain, the bell rope and water are all modelled static, because flexible material, fluid and fire need a joint per element or a shader and neither is reachable with one rigid node transform. Everything is invented: no real abbey, order, saint, text, institution or identifiable building is reproduced, and every written surface carries abstract marks rather than letters in any script.
