Walkable demo
Machine shop and factory hall
Walk the floor of a working machine shop built from the Machine Shop and Factory Hall pack: an engine lathe, mill, drill, grinders, presses and a CNC centre at their stations under a gantry crane, with the mezzanine stores, racking, forklift and welding bay around them.
About
An 18 by 18 metre steel hall from 48 of the pack's 68 models, on the pack's own 6 m concrete floor tiles inside its cladding bays, columns and roof trusses, under the hall preset's cool light with the high bay fittings.
You start at the open front of the hall facing the machine rows. The engine lathe and the bench lathe are in front of you, then the vertical mill, pillar drill, surface grinder, bandsaw, hydraulic press and press brake in rows, each with a tool cabinet, coolant tank, chip tray and swarf pile at its station and yellow bollards guarding the aisles. The CNC machining centre stands along the right wall with the compressor. The gantry crane bridge spans the hall on its runway rails.
At the back the two mezzanine bays with their stair sit over the racking, stillages, pallets of cartons and bar stock, parts bin shelving and trolleys; the welding bay is in the right rear corner with its table, screen, MIG welder, powder coating oven and parts washer. The roller shutter and personnel door are on the left wall with the forklift, the cantilever bar rack, oil drums on their tipping stands and the scrap skip by the entrance.
What moves: chucks, spindles, wheels and the bandsaw blade wheel spin, the lathe carriage and the mill table travel, the press rams stroke, the CNC door slides, the roller shutter rolls up, the personnel door, oven door, parts washer lid and the top tool cabinet drawer open and close, the crane trolley traverses and the forklift rolls its wheels and lifts its mast. What does not: belts, hoses, cables and the crane girder are static, and there are no figures.
Every piece here is a published model from the pack, placed by hand. Walk with the keys or touch, and approach a piece to see it move if it has animation. Colliders, navigation and gameplay are yours to add.
Points of interest
The engine lathe
A 2.4 m bed engine lathe: the chuck spins, the carriage travels the bed and the tailstock handwheel turns as you approach. Filleted sage enamel castings, spoked handwheels and a control panel with its emergency stop.
