Theme Park: Coaster, Midway and Flat Rides
Walk a theme park from the gate: an entrance plaza and fountain, a midway of food carts and game stalls, nine flat rides with their queues, and a full steel coaster with its station, chain lift, helix and vertical loop.
About
The park
A theme park on one plot, 77 by 76 m, walked from the gate. You come in through the twelve metre park entrance gate, cross a paved plaza with a fountain, a bandstand and a mascot statue, and the midway opens ahead of you with the steel coaster standing along the back of the whole site. 607 placements of 88 models, about 9 MB of geometry across the lot.
- The entrance and plaza. The park gate between two ticket booths, the map board and the fingerpost signpost, flag poles along the railings, a photo booth and a drinks machine, then the fountain, the bandstand, a trellis walk, planters and topiary along both edges, benches, bins and twin lamp posts with bulb strings between them, and the mascot statue where the paving meets the midway. The perimeter is fenced panel by panel all the way round.
- The midway. Two rows of units facing each other across the avenue: ring toss, the shooting gallery, balloon darts, the high striker and the prize wall on the games side, popcorn, candy floss, ice cream, the hot dog and lemonade stands, the burger shack and the gift shop on the food side, with bunting overhead, benches down both sides and a picnic table cluster at the east end.
- The coaster. A complete steel circuit lifted from the pack's own composed scene, so the track assembly is the pack's rather than a rebuild: the roofed station with a four car train in it, the chain lift climbing west to a twelve metre crest, a banked turn, a helix, the vertical loop, the brake run with the second train, an end stop, and the footers, columns and A frames carrying all of it.
- The flat rides. Nine of them, each on its own plot with a queue: the ferris wheel and the carousel off the plaza, the chair swing and the kiddie train on the west side, the drop tower and the spinning teacups inside the coaster circuit, the swinging pirate ship down the east avenue, and the observation tower and the log flume drop behind the coaster on the west.
- The queues and back of house. Entrance arches, switchbacks of queue rail with corner and end posts, canopy bays, height check boards, operator booths and exit turnstiles, low fencing round the interior ride plots, a toilet block, a first aid hut, and trees, palms, topiary and planters dressed out to the fence line.
What moves
Eighteen of the models placed here carry clips, and they play as you come within a few metres. The coaster station's air gates and the brake run's paddles open and close, the four chain lift sections run their chains, and both trains work their lap bars and roll their wheels. The ferris wheel, the carousel, the chair swing, the kiddie train and the observation tower cabin turn. The pirate ship rocks. The teacups spin their platform and their cups. The drop tower's car gates open. The shooting gallery targets tip, the exit turnstiles spin, and the bin lids and the fence gates open and close.
What does not move, and why
The catalogue animates with rigid node transforms, one channel per named node, and that is the whole reason for the list below.
- The coaster trains stay parked. Running a train round a circuit is a path animation: the car has to follow the rail, bank with it and change its heading continuously, which no single rigid node transform can do. So both trains sit where a train sits between despatches, one in the station and one on the brake run, and they roll their wheels and work their lap bars instead.
- The drop tower car does not travel the mast, and the log flume boats do not run the trough. Same reason, and the flume water is modelled as a solid surface rather than faked with a shader.
- The ferris wheel gondolas turn with the rim rather than hanging level, and the carousel horses do not rise. Either needs a second channel per car, counter driven against the one that spins the ride.
- There are no people. Nothing in the pack is skinned, so the queues, the ride cars and the benches are empty by design.
Every sign, marquee, fingerboard and name panel in this pack is left blank on purpose, so the park has no name and nothing here carries lettering to read. Letter them with your own.
Not in this plot
Two things in the pack are not placed. The wooden coaster kit builds a second complete circuit about 26 by 50 m, and two full circuits plus the rides leave no room for a park anyone could walk, so the steel one is here in full instead. The bumper car arena is the one flat ride that found no plot once the other nine were down.
Walking it
The walk is flat: a demo has no vertical movement, so the coaster track, the drop tower and the observation tower are silhouette you look at rather than climb, and everything a visitor meets, the stalls, the queues, the seating and the ride plots, is at ground level. Two minutes takes you gate, plaza, midway, coaster station, then round behind the circuit past the drop tower and back.
Every piece here is a published model from the pack, placed by hand. Walk with the keys or touch, and approach a piece to see it move if it has animation. Colliders, navigation and gameplay are yours to add.
Points of interest
The entrance plaza
In through the twelve metre park gate, past the ticket booths and the map board, onto the plaza. The fountain, the bandstand and a trellis walk are on your left and right; the mascot statue marks the top of the plaza.
Park Entrance Gate (Theme Park Rides and Coasters)The carousel
The carousel stands at the head of the plaza with its own queue rail and entrance arch. It turns as you come near. The horses and the canopy poles are one piece with the platform, so the ride spins whole rather than the horses rising.
Carousel (Theme Park Rides and Coasters)The midway
Games one side, food the other: ring toss, the shooting gallery, balloon darts, the high striker and the prize wall, then popcorn, candy floss, ice cream and the burger shack. The gallery targets tip as you pass.
Shooting Gallery Stall (Theme Park Rides and Coasters)The coaster station
A four car train stands in the steel coaster station, air gates along the platform edge, the brake run beyond. Gates and lap bars open and close. The train stays parked: running a train round a track is a path, not a node transform.
Coaster Station Platform (Theme Park Rides and Coasters)The lift hill
The chain lift climbs west out of the station to a twelve metre crest, then drops into a banked turn and the vertical loop beyond it. The lift chain travels; the track itself is a fixed assembly of the pack modules.
Coaster Lift Hill Section (Theme Park Rides and Coasters)The drop tower
Twenty seven metres of it, standing inside the coaster circuit where it reads against the sky from most of the park. The car gates open and close. The car does not travel the mast: a lift is a path animation.
Drop Tower (Theme Park Rides and Coasters)The ferris wheel
Eighteen metres over the east side of the plaza, with its queue, height check board and operator booth. The wheel turns as you approach; the gondolas are modelled solid with it, so they rotate with the rim rather than hanging level.
Ferris Wheel (Theme Park Rides and Coasters)The back of the park
Behind the coaster: the observation tower, the log flume drop and the spinning teacups, with benches, bins and lamp posts along the back path. The tower cabin turns; the flume water is modelled solid.
