Hot Air Balloon Launch Field

A 72 m grass launch field on a festival morning, laid from the pack's own 8 m ground modules with a farm track across it, hedgerow and a timber gate on the field edge, and hay and straw bales in the corners.

Six pitches run left to right as the crowd line sees them, and each is at a different stage, because that is what this pack is for. The envelope ships in states rather than as one model: in its bag, walked out flat with the crown and side lines run off to the stakes, part inflated and leaning as the fan fills it, and fully inflated and upright on the basket. Two sheets are on the grass, one envelope is part inflated behind the fan and its guard cage, and three balloons stand on four person baskets with burner frames and twin burners.

Around them is the rest of a launch: spare burners, propane cylinders upright, strapped and racked, fuel hose runs, inflation scoops, ground handling and drop lines, crown rope coils, ballast bags, tether anchors, pitch marker posts and marshal flags, a windsock, a pibal stand and briefing boards. Recovery vehicles and trailers, roof racks, basket trolleys and spare bags are parked along the track with cones, finger posts, floodlight masts and a generator. Behind the barriers sit the registration gazebo, trestle tables and folding chairs, a catering van, toilet blocks, bins, first aid and extinguisher points, a bunded fuel bay, flag poles and bunting.

What moves: the inflation fan blades spin, the burner gimbals tilt, the cylinder valves turn, the basket trolley, trailer and vehicle wheels roll, and the timber field gate swings. Clips play as you walk up to a piece.

What does not move, and why: the envelope fabric, the crown and side lines, the ground handling and drop lines, the fuel hoses, the bunting, the flags and the windsock are all static, and so is the burner flame. Every one of them is flexible material or fire, which needs a joint per element or a shader, and neither is reachable with the single rigid node transform this catalogue animates with. An inflating envelope in particular is a cloth simulation, not an animation: rather than fake it, the pack supplies the posed states, and this demo walks you past all of them at once. There are no people anywhere in the scene, because nothing here is skinned.

The field is flat and the walk has no vertical movement, so everything worth seeing sits at ground level. An inflated envelope is 21 m tall and reads as silhouette above you.
