## About

The gate end of the plot on its own at working scale, open topped like the plot scene so everything inside the wall stays visible from a walk at eye height. The tile roofed gate house stands on the axis of a clay and stone boundary wall that runs the full frontage and is closed by an end pier at each end, with a paper lantern hanging either side of the gate and a stepping stone path leading in. Inside the wall the beaten earth yard carries the well head, a pair of buckets, a stone water basin, two fermentation jars, a firewood stack, a persimmon tree, bamboo and a stone pagoda ornament. Outside it the street runs the whole width with a market shed of two post and beam bays under two gabled roof cassettes closed by their ridge runs, a trestle stall with an awning, produce baskets, straw sacks of grain, a bench, a stack of roof tiles and a hanging sign board whose faces are blank. Every board and painted field here is an abstract shape and carries no characters of any script.
