## About

A desert mosque and its teaching college round a 12 m court open to the sky: twelve pointed arch arcade bays and four corners closing three sides of it, the ablution fountain in the middle with runnels, trees, benches, lamps and a cistern round it, and an open sided hypostyle prayer hall of twenty two bays behind, laid with mat runs and lit by hanging lamps, with the minbar and the tiled mihrab wall at its far end. A large ribbed turquoise dome and two smaller plaster domes stand on the hall roof, a half dome hoods the mihrab on the outer face of the qibla wall, and a stacked minaret rises from the west yard, where the well head, the pigeon cote and the palms are. In front, nearest the eye, the madrasa forecourt has two ranges of study cells facing each other, the teaching desks, cushions, book chests, shelves and screens between them, shade canopies and palms over them, and the stepped entrance portal closing the court on the axis, with the desert running out round the whole plot.
